If you have installed Virtus Player, Enter Webmuseum's Virtual Reality
- ![]()
Note: when vrml (.wsb) files start
dowloading, a window called "Viewing Location" appears with the time remaining
for downloading. Place your cursor IN the window. Should the screen saver take over and
create the blank screen, when you click the mouse to check progress you won't lose the
window. If the cursor was outside the window, the window automatically closes with any
click of the mouse. But if the window closes, don't worry, downloading conintues and you
can open the window again by clicking on the window's icon in Netscape's lower screen
selection bar.

CURRENT STATUS OF VRML EXPERIENCE OF THIS
WEB SITE - the VRML 3-D files were constructed in mid-1996
with Virtus 3DWebsite Builder software. At this present time of launching the
files unto the Internet it was discovered that the browser for this program "never
made it past the beta-testing version". As of June 1997 the company's only VRML
browser for their proprietary .wsb VRML files is Virtus Player. This new
replacement browser does show the files with the original great color and textures
appropriate for a virtual fine arts exhibition space. However, very
disappointingly, links to HTML text support pages AND other .wsb 3-D rooms do not
function with Virtus Player! Virtus technical support said they are
"researching the request" to make the .wsb files' links function (do what they
are suppose to do according to the product's manual guidelines). Virtus tech support
suggested an alternative browser, such as Netscape 3.0 with its 3dLive VRML
browser. However our experimentation demonstrated that the converted .wsb to standard VRML
.wrl files take way too long to download into Navigator - on this PC's
hard drive! Just as importantly, there was a huge loss in color and texture
quality, resulting in inferior appearance of the exhibited artwork within the
virtual galleries. So our team make the decision to go with .wsb visual quality, intact
online with the freeware, Virtus Player, handily downloadable
right from this page. Special pages were built in HTML to enable the browser to
get around in the different virtual reality rooms and sound is attained
for art viewing pleasure. Hopefully Virtus Corporation soon will offer upgraded software
that has 1) links that go back and forth between VRML and HTML, 2) links to music files
from within VRML so that the cool music buttons in the elevators work in the future, 3)
.wsb files requiring .bmp graphic files can be converted to .jpegs and 4) popular browsers
such as Netscape and Internet Explorer can dispaly the existing .wsb files as converted
.wrl files with comparable visual quality. We know people hestitate to tie up their
systems downloading specialized browsing software. But consider that with Virtus
Player your virtual reality experience will be artistically greatly enhanced beyond
what is currently available with Navigator 3.0. Plus navigating around the museum is much
easier and intuitive and downloading files are 3 to 4 times FASTER as
.wsb rather than .wrl files!! Art Lovers, For Art's
Sake, Please Download! (if not now, bookmark and do
it later to truly experience this Web site) -- Cyberstaff of lastplace.com,
